Ahem. May I have your attention please.
It is my pleasure to announce our newest moderator, Stevil. Stevil is 47 years old and a native of Ireland. He’s been a valuable contributor to our forum for some time, and – especially given his strong research background - we are lucky to have him! Congratulations to Stevil and welcome to our moderator team. In his own words: "I've been a full vegetarian for 21 years, but even before then I rarely ate meat or fish, so I think there was a long undercurrent of inevitability to it. For me it's a question of exercising the ability to make conscious choices in life rather than just going with the flow. Workwise, I'm a post-doctoral research scientist and occasional lecturer/tutor. Without going into too much tedious detail I'd loosely describe the work I've done as molecular biology, most of it has been about free-radicals and the damage they do, especially in terms of protein damage and its consequences. I'm not a lifetime academic; I used to do more practical jobs like managing a record shop and later truck driving. Like many guys I dabbled with gym-work off & on through much of my early years without ever getting really serious about it. In my early forties I realised it was time to make another one of those conscious decisions about life and ditch the couch-potato lifestyle. I'd consider myself to be one of those keen-but-somewhat-genetically-disadvantaged gym goers: gains are hard to come by and easily lost, which is frustrating. Mostly I'm aiming to be as fit and healthy as I can for as many years as I can, and if I can getter bigger and leaner that's a welcome bonus. In times gone my 'working out' was mostly a default condition of being a drummer in bands that usually couldn't afford to pay roadies to do the grunt work. I got into scuba diving about 12 years ago and I dabble in underwater photography too, but mostly these days I'm a content, and very proud, dad to an energetic 17 month-old -------------------- |

I hate that definition! Afterall, aren't we normal folks all "hard-gainers"? Isn't it just eh genetically elite which aren't? Anyway, great to have you here!! |
